HYU Holdings, a Hanyang University-based investment holding company, has partnered with Singapore-based early-stage fund Farquhar VC to help South Korean startups go global.

HYUH and Farquhar VC will collaborate on investing in HYUH and Hanyang University affiliated startups and accelerate their internationalization efforts to Singapore and the world.

Both will also explore joint funding initiatives to invest and scale HYUH startups globally.

Prof. Byung-Hee Lee, CEO of HYUH, said that both HYUH and FVC share the same ambitions of enabling early-stage university startups to strategize, scale and succeed in overseas markets. It is a golden opportunity to combine the capabilities of both organizations.

Jason Su, FVC’s chief investment officer, said university-based startups like Singapore’s Beep and Roceso need to plan for market expansion early while focusing on domestic and commercial milestones. Cross-border successes depend on the strengths of the ecosystem actors.

Founded in 2008, HYUH is the first university-based holding company in Korea to commercialize HYU technologies and invest in HYU and related startups.

To date, HYUH has invested in more than 50 startups across multiple industries.

Founded in 2020, Farquhar has invested in over 20 startups and achieved two exits. Farquhar aims to accelerate the growth of its startup investments through targeted market access with its vast network of medium and large local companies in Southeast Asia, Taiwan and other parts of the world.

FVC makes the first close of its second fund FVC Green Future Fund.

In December, South Korean accelerator-cum-VC fund Bigbang Angels launched a global investment fund in Singapore in partnership with Farquhar VC.
